2/08/08: Our own Dr. Peter Bishop was interviewed on Fox News Houston on what businesses may be extinct in the future. Check it out.

2/8/08: Lloyd Walker of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California has produced an innovative flash application in order (according to Walker), " to rapidly generate a futures scenario for mobility workshops." 12/13/07 The Futures Studies department is helping to organize the UH campus for the Focus the Nation Environmental Teach-In on January 31st. Anyone interested in joining in on the effort, please contact us. More information about Focus the Nation can be found at http://www.focusthenation.org/

12/13/07 Congratulations to Futures student Stephanie Carroll who has just accepted a position as Director of Special Events for Houston PBS channel 8. Stephanie was formerly the Membership Manager for Holocaust Museum Houston.

12/13/07 Futures student Phillip Carpenter co-authored two papers with professor Peter Bishop in response to the Call for Papers for Special issue Human Extinction Scenarios in the journal Futures. The first paper is titled "A Review of Previous Mass Extinctions and Historic Catastrophic Events" and the second paper is titles "The seventh mass extinction: Human-caused events contribute to a fatal consequence". Both papers have been accepted for publication in the peer reviewed journal Futures.

10/30/07 Dr. Peter Bishop, head of the Futures Studies department, was featured on the Steven Kay radio show discussing "TECHNOLOGY PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE". The panel also discusses Futures Studies in general and it's a great high level overview of what you learn in the program. Take a listen to the archive of the show.

10/24/07 The audio archives of The Futures Studies "Energy and the Environment Lecture Series" is now live and online. You can experience the lecture just like you were there or download lecture slides. Check it out! Also, Futures grad students Simeon Spearman and Rachel Tubman were quoted in a Houston Chronicle article about the future of journaling.

10/15/07 The UH Futures Studies department, department head, Dr. Peter Bishop, and department grad, Gary Golden, all received mention in a Forbes.com article on the mainstreaming of Futures Studies.

10/03/07  The Futures Studies program is sponsoring a series of lectures on "The Future of Energy and the Environment" every Tuesday at 6pm central through November 13th. The lectures, which are free and open to the public, can be attended in person on the UH campus, or virtually through the Internet or telephone. Please email us for information on how to attend.

09/30/07 Check out this New York Times' article for a quote from current Futures Studies student, Simeon Spearman, on how in the office, game rooms are replacing traditional break rooms.

5/11/06 Futures student Phillip Carpenter has submitted an article with Dr. Bruce Tonn on "Technology for Sustainability" to be included in the Encyclopedia of Ecology.

5/10/06 Cissy Yoes announces that UTMB is hosting noted futurist Clem Bezold, founder and chairman of the Institute for Alternative Futures in Alexandria VA., at noon on Wednesday May 17, at UTMB. The public is welcome. (Levin Hall North Auditorium)

4/17/06 Verne Wheelright has an article called " Personal Futuring: A Step-by-Step Guide," in the May/June 2006 issue of The Futurist. See http://www.wfs.org/futcontmj06.htm

4/13/06 Will Thurmond has just been accepted into the PhD program in Political Science, Alternative Futures at Manoa. He will attending this Fall.

3/9/06 Alum Dennis Morgan recently won first prize in the United States Forces in Korea (USFK) Forums writing contest for his short story story, "A Kafkorea Tale." You can access the story from the following link. http://www.usfkforums.com Just click on "articles" and scroll down.

2/13/06 Good news on the job front! Two alums have recently accepted positions in the corporate world. Amy Oberg is now the resident futurist at Kimberly Clark and Dave Jarvis accepted a job with IBM Business Consulting Services to help develop technology futures products.

2/12/06 Reviewing the future. Andy Hines and current student Scott Reif recently had book reviews accepted for publication in Foresight. Congratulations to Scott for his first futures publication - we look forward to many more.

1/4/06 Peter Bishop recently conducted a survey on the use of mathematics by futurists. Read his analysis.

1/1/06 Peter Bishop was interviewed by the Houston Chronicle to kick off 2006 in a story called He Has an Everyday Look Into Tomorrow.
