Roles and Responsibilities
Assist students in their laboratory work.
Supervise ongoing laboratory experiments and their successful completion.
Maintain records of student performance.
Oversee laboratory equipment, computer and software use. 
Collaborate with Lab management and Faculty in the preparation of course materials.
Conduct and Duties
Lab assistants are expected to arrive promptly at your assigned time to work. 
They must contact lab management in advance if late or absent (713-743-4690).
Be courteous and professional at all times while assisting students.
Be attentive to the needs of their students.
Clearly explain solutions to students in step by step procedures at the speed and knowledge level 
of the student. 
Do not solve a student's problem. Instead, attempt 
to lead the student to solving his own problem.
All lab assistants are responsible for having a working knowledge of the lab material as well as the 
lab equipment, hardware and software used in the labs.
Lab Assistants are required to attend the training sessions prepared by Lab Management.
Lab assistants are required to grade the student's work in a timely manner and maintain records of the student's grades.
Note: Grading procedures vary with each laboratory; therefore, lab assistants should consult Lab Management on how to grade.
Work Area
Lab assistants are required to maintain the lab environment clean. 
Students must be required to clean their work area after completion of their lab sessions.

Lab Equipment
In case of equipment problem, label the defective equipment, fill out a Malfunctioning Equipment 
Report form and contact the Chief Technician Ray Khalili.

Dress Code
Lab assistants must wear sleeved shirt, long pants, and covered shoes. 
Evaluations
Each semester, lab assistant's performance is evaluated by lab managers.
This evaluation will aid in making decisions regarding continuing employment.
