Course Title: Framework of Professional Project Management (TEPM 6301)

This course uses a "common body of knowledge" approach to the general subject area of high-tech project management. It is not geared to fully prepare the participant to take the PMP certification exam, but is a valuable aid in teaching both the theoretical and real world basics of project management in an organization, both from the business side and technical viewpoints.

Experienced faculty for this course bring both a real world and theoretical perspective to this topic. In addition, outside consultants add contemporary perspectives. A working level exposure to various computer tools such as Microsoft Project will be provided.

Who Should Attend?

The course is intended for both technically and business oriented individuals who wish to understand more on this subject. The course assumes no formal background in project management, although some exposure to a real world project environment would be considered a plus. Each course topic will be approached from an introductory viewpoint.

The course is also appropriate for experienced project managers, or managers of project managers, who lack knowledge of the structured processes outlined in PMI's A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide). The course material covers such a broad front of material that even experienced project managers will find new perspectives in the material.

Description

This course explores project management using the Project Management Institute's (PMI®) model approach as described in A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide). The course takes the participant through the complete life cycle of a project and the activities involved in successful completion of each phase. This broad and duration intensive perspective sets this course apart from other similar commercial offerings in this area. The fifteen week semester allows sufficient time for the student to absorb and practice the concepts presented. The learning approach uses class lectures, case studies, current articles, and lab exercises, along with active class participation.
