Curriculum

Curriculum for the Certificate in Professional Project Management

Curriculum

This program is designed for individuals who wish a high-level exposure to the theory and practice of project management in a high technology environment. Core content of the curriculum is specifically tailored around the Project Management Institute's PMP certification, plus the perspectives of selected visiting industry consultant speakers. One major program goal is to prepare the participant for PMP certification.

Courses Offered

  • Framework of Professional Project Management [3 semester hours] - a standard fifteen week college semester format course, taught one night a week, that is designed to provide the participant with a professional overview of the contemporary high technology project management subject.
  • Advanced Project Management [3 semester hours] - a standard fifteen week college semester format course, taught one night a week. This course represents the second half of the graduate program.

Registration

Registration can only be confirmed through submitting enrollment registration payment along with the completed registration form. Registration is controlled based on seating availability. To obtain seating availability information, please contact Shantavia Settles (ssettles@central.uh.edu or 713-743-2994).

Program Schedule & Architecture

Technology is so embedded in the enterprise work process that the waste and failure rates which used to characterize high-tech projects are unacceptable in today's world. Disciplined management techniques can greatly improve the productivity and success rate of High Technology projects. Some industry experts predict that certified project managers will be increasingly sought after to manage future projects. This movement is driven by recognition that such leaders are experiencing higher success levels than individuals who tackle the task using ad-hoc methods.

Certificate Program Structure

The certificate program in High-Tech Project Management prepares the student to handle the full scope of project management and to pass the highly respected Project Management Professional (PMP) certification course sponsored by the Project Management Institute.
