Master of Science in Human Resources Development

Overview

The Human Development and Consumer Sciences department currently offers a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Human Resources Development (HRD).

This program is designed for the professional who seeks advanced preparation utilizing powerful tools to facilitate sustainable change in diverse organizations. Students examine e-learning tools, build an understanding of adult learning theory and organizational dynamics, combined with research and productivity measurement techniques, to create individual and organizational transformations. Students focus on critical thinking, the theoretical foundations of the field, the application of state of the art instructional design strategies and the use of appropriate assessment techniques to measure program effectiveness, impact, and continuous quality improvement in organizational environments.

Three distinctive features of the HRD program include:

HRD’s performance-oriented curriculum focuses on mastery (skills), expertise (knowledge), and relevance (credibility).

  • Foundational, contemporary, and research-oriented curriculum offers balanced perspective
  • Curriculum incorporates real-world experiences into classroom
  • Dedicated to meeting individual student needs through customized attention.

HRD’s E-Learning capabilities are pioneering the development and delivery of online learning.

  • Strong experience in e-learning and instructional design
  • Striving to make the on-line experience high-tech and high-touch as alternatives to traditional instruction
  • Recently received grant to further strengthen online curriculum with state- of-the-art technologies

HRD’s extensive community outreach involves actively working with the local business community to keep abreast of best practices and opportunities for internships and jobs.

  • Meet regularly with external HRD Advisory Board
  • Offers expertise to professional community through speaking, publishing, and consulting
  • Partner with ASTD for joint planning of special programs
