Master of Technology in Futures Studies in Commerce

Most of the specialized curriculum for the M.T. in Futures Studies in Commerce come from the TECH courses. You can see brief descriptions of the TECH courses in the UH Catalog listings for graduate courses.

TECH 6311: Introduction to Future Studies
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: Graduate standing. An introduction to the methods, practitioners and issues of futures research. 

TECH 6371: World Futures
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: TECH 6311, or consent of instructor. A review of global trends shaping the future, including the most important demographic, environmental, technological, economic, political, and cultural changes. 

TECH 6351: Futures Research 
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: TECH 6311 and HRD 6300, or consent of instructor. An introduction to and practice in the tools and techniques used in traditional and in alternative futures forecasting. 

TECH 6353: Scenarios and Visions
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: TECH 6311, or consent of instructor. An overview of the important qualitative techniques of visioning and scenario development. 

TECH 6319: Proseminar in Futures Studies 
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: TECH 6311, or consent of instructor. A review of futures studies as a professional discipline and practice, including the latest techniques and the ethics of professional practice. 

HDCS 6331: Advanced Strategies for Futures Planning in Consumer Sciences and Retailing 
Cr. 3 (3-0). Prerequisites: Graduate standing. Strategic thinking for changing retail environments and organizations, focusing on research, best practices, and planning (was Advanced Strategies in Consumer Sciences and Merchandising). 

HDCS 6332: Consumer Issues and Futures Applications
Cr. 3 (3-0). Prerequisites: Graduate standing. Consumer issues for retailing and futures applications (was Consumer Issues and Applications). 

HRD 6300: Quantitative and Statistical Methods for Human Resources Development
(Instructor: Fitzgibbon and Goodson) Cr. 3. (3-0). A survey of statistical and quantitative methods for data analysis applied to human resources development. 

MARK 6361: Marketing Administration 
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: Graduate standing. Marketing orientation and concepts; marketing programs incorporating the societal perspective in formulating strategies for the design, pricing, channeling, and promotion of products/services. 

MARK 7374: New Product Development
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: Graduate standing and MARK 6361. New product development and testing, business analysis for new products and applications of marketing planning models for successful introduction of new products. 

MARK 7368: Integrated Marketing Communications 
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: MARK 6361. The use of advertising, public relations and other promotional tools. 

MARK 7393 and 7394: Consulting I & II 
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: Graduate standing and consent of instructor. Business analysis, consultative business relationships, project management, communication and teamwork
