Carlo Deason Receives George Magner Award for Excellence in Academic Advising

April 20, 2009

Carlo Deason, Academic Advisor 2 for the College of Technology, is the recipient of the George Magner Award for Excellence in Academic Advising for the 2008-2009 academic year. The Magner Award is given to members of the University of Houston's staff in recognition of excellence in undergraduate advising. He is the first advisor from our college to receive the award in its 19 year history. Carlo has worked for the college since November 1997. He earned an MA from UH-Clear Lake in Cross-Cultural Studies, and an MBA from the University of Houston. Carlo states, "I am really pleased about winning the award, especially since this is a first for our College. I truly enjoy working with our students. I really think that they are great and they are the reason why I enjoy my job so much. I would like to thank the administrators, faculty, staff and students who assisted with my nomination for this award. I am humbled and extremely appreciative by their gesture." Carlo will be recognized at the Staff Awards Luncheon on May 7.
