
Carlo Deason is the Senior Academic Advisor and the Community Liaison Officer in the College of Technology at the University of Houston. Besides assisting with the coordination of the academic advising activities in the college, he does specialty academic advising for the Honors students, student athletes, and First-Generation students in the college. Carlo is also mentor for the University of Houston Men’s Track & Field team. He has a Bachelor of Science in Technology degree (cum laude) from the University of Houston-College of Technology, a Master of Business Administration degree from Lamar University-Beaumont, and a Master of Arts degree in Cross Cultural Studies from the University of Houston-Clear Lake (UHCL). He earned a certification in Mediation while attending UHCL. Upon graduating from the University of Houston–Clear Lake, Carlo was awarded the 2006 Most Outstanding Graduate Student in the Cross Cultural Studies program. Professionally, Carlo is a member the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA) where he is a member of the Student Athletes Commission, Multicultural Concerns Commission, and the LGBTA Concerns Commission. He is also a member the Texas Academic Advising Network (TEXAAN).
Carlo is a highly decorated competitive distance runner. Carlo is also an active member of the Houston area running community where he is a member of the Houston Masters Sports Association, Brazosport Area Road Runners Association, Houston Area Road Runners Association, and USA Track & Field. He is a founding member and team captain of the Lone Star Frontrunners and the Vice President of Team Houston. Carlo also has earned a Long Distance Running Coaching certification through the Road Runners Club of America. Carlo has held several event and course records for many of the local races. Carlo’s running exploits have been featured in Runner Triathlete News, Inside Texas Running, OutSmart Magazine, the Houston Voice, the Houston Chronicle, and the Brazosport Facts. He has won multiple medals in international competitions including the 2002 Sydney Gay Games, 2004 Seattle International Frontrunner Games, 2006 Montreal World Outgames, 2007 Calgary North America Outgames. He has also been the Texas Masters Track & Field age-group champion in the 800m and 1500m for several years.
