The College of Technology continues to create opportunities for those interested in life sciences technology, which could eventually lead to a life sciences technology department within the college.
The baccalaureate program in biotechnology (developed in collaboration with the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics) is currently under the auspices of the Engineering Technology Department and was accredited in Fall of 2008 by the THECB. There are currently two tracks in the program - bio-processing and bio-informatics - with an emphasis in environmental biotechnology. The program enjoys collaborations with numerous biotech companies in the Houston area as well as other biotechnology programs across the United States through its affiliation with the Center for Life Sciences Technology.
The UH College of Technology is also home to the Center for Life Sciences Technology. The Center was started in 2005 with the task of enhancing workforce development in life sciences technology for the state of Texas. The Center for Life Sciences Technology offers summer programs for teacher and student education in biotechnology, professional courses for workforce development, and numerous academic, workforce and research resources at its state-wide web portal.
Currently housed in the Department of Information and Logistics Technology, clinical research programs are also offered by the College of Technology. These include a M.S. in Technology Project Management with an emphasis in Clinical Reserach and a professional Clinical Research Certificate.
The UH College of Technology is also a primary partner with the Abramson Center for the Future of Health, which focuses on cutting-edge and practical research to promote transparency, visibility, effective decisioning, and effective distribution of health care in the 21st century.
