What groups do to help children at DePelchin Children's Center
Group Volunteering Projects
Some groups volunteer together on a direct service project or on a physical plant project. It may be possible, if the schedule permits, for your group to provide a party (educational activity, games, craft, story book time, and/or refreshments) or outing (zoo, museum, park, carnival, or sporting event) for the children in residential programs at DePelchin Children's Center. A group may wish to help us brighten up the surroundings of our facilities through painting, landscaping, or playground clean-up projects. Call me to discuss your interests. Your ideas are welcome.
Smile Makers
Smile Makers is for groups who desire to brighten a child's day but can not directly interact with the children. Make a child smile by purchase tickets and donating them to our center. The children enjoy attending sporting events, theme parks, museums, fairs, and other special events.
Holiday Project
Every year during the holiday season, DePelchin Children's Center is the recipient of thousands of donated toys and gifts for children. The task of sorting and distributing these donations is a project we can not tackle without volunteer support. Could you put aside some daytime or evening hours in the holiday season to help? Would you like to donate toys? Again, contact me if your group can help, or if you would like to receive gift giving guidelines. Youth are certainly welcome to participate.
Bulk Mail & Special Project Needs
Throughout the year there are various bulk mailings that we send out. Volunteers are needed periodically to assist with stuffing, labeling, and stamping these mailings. This would be a great project for individuals or small groups if you are able to be "on-call" for such projects when needed.
Organize a Drive
You may wish to organize a drive in your school, temple, community center or church. A drive is a project in which you collect items that children or teens might need such as:
- baby items (diapers, wipes, infant clothing, crib sheets, etc.)
- arts and crafts
- school supplies
- toiletry articles (shampoo, soap, baby powder, toothbrush, and other things one might use to clean up)
- linens and towels (bed linens for twin, full, and queen sized beds, towels, washcloths, etc.)
- cleaning supplies (detergent, bleach, dryer sheets, etc.)
- community enriched tickets (Tickets to the following: Zuma, movies, bowling, sports, ballet, musical, dance, Disney events, etc...)
