A one-day HANDS-ON workshop that introduces students to Cisco Systems routers, Cisco Operating System (IOS) and switching.

Course Description

This workshop is presented by the University of Houston College of Technology Engineering Technology Department and Cisco Systemss and sponsored by the Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA). This EDA-sponsored course is a one-day HANDS-ON workshop that introduces students to Cisco Systems routers, Cisco Operating System (IOS) and switching. This workshop is a condensed version of Cisco Certified Network Associate course that prepares students for the CCNA Certification exam. The Intro to Cisco Systems workshop providesan introduction to Cisco Routers, IOS commands, installation and initial configuration, Wide-Area Network configurations, switching and VLANs.

About the instructor

Dan Owen has worked as worked as Network Engineer @ NASA for 11 years and has been been 12 years as a Network Design Specialist @ AT&T, Inc. He holds an B.A. from the University of Houston.

You will learn

  • Identification of Cisco routers and their components
  • Initial configuration
  • Configuring the router for Wide Area Networks (Frame Relay and PPP)
  • How to configure serial and ethernet interfaces
  • Configuring Routing Information Protocol (RIP) routing protocol
  • Configuring Open Shortest Path First (OSPF) routing protocol in single-area and multi-area configurations
  • Network Address Translation (NAT) and DHCP
  • Identification and configuration of Cisco switches
  • Virtual Local Area Networks (VLAN)

Cost

$400/person. Refreshments and lunch provided.

Basic knowledge of routing protocols
