Contract Procedures
A University of Houston student seeking a contract from the College of Technology must schedule an
appointment with an undergraduate advisor by calling 713.743.4100. Two groups of students may be
referred to the College of Technology for a contract: 1) Students on academic probation who have
not declared a major but are close to completing 60 hours of coursework 2) students seeking readmission
from academic suspension through Undergraduate Scholars who have not declared a major but are close
to completing 60 hours of coursework. A student seeking a contract from the College of Technology
will be evaluated on their interest in and academic preparation to pursue a major in our college.
Additionally, the student will be assessed on their ability to raise their cumulative UH GPA to
2.0 within a period covered by two contracts (two semesters).
If approved for a contract, a student will be allowed to take courses toward a College of Technology
major in an undeclared status. Contracts may be written for any major in the College of Technology
except Information Systems Technology. The contract student will be placed on a preliminary degree
plan and advised on a schedule of classes. The student must make a grade of “B” or higher in each
class taken during the term of his or her contract, meet with a College of Technology advisor for a
mid semester conference and attend 4 workshops or tutorial sessions at the Learning Support Services
Center. The student will be granted a second contract only if the terms of the first contract are met.
A maximum of two contracts will be written for a student. Full terms and conditions of the contract
will be discussed with the student at the time the first contract is written. The contract student
will be able to officially declare a major in the College of Technology when his or her cumulative UH
GPA reaches a 2.0.
The deadlines for seeking a contract with the College of Technology are:
Fall Semester – July 1
Spring Semester – December 1
